A tribute to Betty Lock

The Gawler Branch of the Embroiderers Guild was saddened to learn of the death of our long standing member Betty (Berendina) Lock towards the end of last year. Betty joined our branch in 1997 after moving from Balgowan to
Gawler. She had been a member of the Yorke Peninsular branch of the Embroiderer’s since 1983 during which time she was very involved in the design, embroidering and construction of the large and wonderful wall hanging in the Maitland Council Chambers. The hanging depicted life on the Yorke Peninsula.

Betty was a regular and very productive member of our Gawler branch and we marvelled at her creative skills and clever use of colour. At the last regional visit held in Gawler we had a display of her work showing the large range of embroidery styles that Betty excelled at. Two years ago we were happy to be able to have a special lunch for Betty on her 90th birthday. She was loved and respected member of our branch and is greatly missed.
