The Flame Azalea is the State native flower of Georgia, USA – and I designed this piece specially for teaching at the 2024 Seminar in Atlanta. At home in Australia, they are known as a Mollis Azalea – and we have three in our garden.
This piece combines both Goldwork and Stumpwork techniques to create this botanical style design. It is worked on royal purple silk dupion using Au Ver a Soie silks and English gilt metal threads. Techniques used include felt padding, applied organza, laid purl, kid leather, detached petals filled with long and short stitch and wired stamens. The flowers are over 3cm in relief with two of them being fully three dimensional.
Design Size: 14cm x 18cm approximately. Kit cost $150.00 payable to tutor on the first day of class.
