This form of needlelace is synonymous with other embroideries from Spain that have a Moorish influence. The loops and ground are worked over #371 gold couching thread with coloured silk threads or overdyed 12 Perle cotton. For the Sea Star, I have used the overdyed #12 Perle cotton sold by the trading table as a fund raiser. You could also use Cordonnet/Dentelle thread either overdyed or a solid colour. The piece I studied in the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam dated c.1615-c.1630 was worked with coloured silk threads over silver metal thread. Stitches used are couching stitch and buttonhole stitch.
