Swan Lake – Raised embroidery ornament 2 day workshop with Anna Scott

The Swan Lake ornament is worked onto a twilight blue silk using raised embroidery and metal thread techniques, and further embellished with beads.

The swan is embroidered mostly in silk threads with accents of very fine silver metallic thread. It is highly padded and has a detached wing to achieve a 3D effect. The stylized water swirls are stitched with laid metal thread, and beads are used to form water droplets and stars. The design is made into a hanging ornament, with a beaded edge.

During the class, you will learn how to attach and embroider over high padding, create and attach an embroidered slip (wing), stitching basic needle lace, learn basic metal thread couching and bead embellishment. The primary focus of the workshop will be the raised embroidery and metal thread techniques.

The back of the ornament is embroidered with a decorative laid trellis using fine metallic and silk threads.

Kit cost $95.00 payable to tutor on the first day of class.

Closing Date Friday 3rd October 2025

-Some experience in the technique and stitching is assumed. Participants should be confident with general embroidery stitches. Experience in raised and metal thread techniques is not essential.
