Spring Into Stitching: Spot Sampler 2 day workshop with Di Fisher

While stitching this section of the spot motif sampler, students will be able to explore the range of interesting patterns and motifs adapted from embroidered designs on similar samplers from the first half of the 1600s and also create their own stitch samples. The sampler is based on Di’s study of spot motif samplers in collections overseas. The Stuart embroiderers were very inventive with their use of different stitches and would have stitched these designs on sweet bags, as borders, and as applied slips for example. The sampler is stitched in silk and metal threads. The embroidered area of the detail of the spot motif sampler is 14.5cm x 7cm. The overall size of the sampler will be 58cm x 20.5cm and will be a series of ongoing classes at the Guild.
